Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Snoring and sleep apnea are related in that both are caused by the back of the tongue contacting the soft palate in the back of the mouth. Sleep apnea is caused by a total closure of the airway and is usually treated with a mask that forces air into the mouth or nose to force open the airway (CPAP machine).

Snoring occurs when some air passes through and the soft tissues vibrate. All anti-snoring appliances work the same way – they move the lower jaw forward and open the bite slightly. These appliances vary wildly in cost ($500 to $3000). You can find them online or obtain them from a dentist.

TheraSnore

We recommend the “TheraSnore” appliance which we make in the office and deliver in one appointment. We have had good success with TheraSnore (see testimonial) and the charge is reasonable - $400.

Although a TheraSnore appliance is not necessarily a treatment for sleep apnea, we have had some patients whose sleep apnea was alleviated by wearing one.

If you or someone you know has a problem with snoring, please give our office a call and we will be happy to consult with you regarding the TheraSnore appliance.
